Why visit Santiago de Compostela and what is there to do?
  • Have you heard of Camino de Santiago (also known as the Way of St. James)? This is one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world and Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of the route!
  • This is because Santiago de Compostela is home to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral which houses the tomb of St. James the Apostle. The cathedral is the centrepiece of the city and a must visit – it even has the famous Botafumeiro – a giant incense holder.
  • The city’s old town is listed as a UNESCO world history site.
  • Finally – the food! Santiago is part of the Galicia region and known for its incredible cuisine of fresh seafood, hearty stews and the unique tarta de Santiago which is an almond cake.

If you found this useful...

I would appreciate it greatly if you used one of my affiliate links to purchase your next flight, accomodation, transport link or entrance tickets for your trip. It comes at no extra cost to you but it would help me out a little so that I can continue dedicating my time to finding and sharing these deals.

  • Trip.com: Flights, accommodation, trains, tickets. Sometimes I find that the price they offer is actually cheaper than booking directly the airline!
  • Kiwi.com: Flights. Again, I have booked with them when they offer a cheaper price.
  • Tiqets.com: Tickets to attractions and museums around the world. I have used them for popular attractions where tickets through the official channel have sold out e.g. for Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. I’ll be honest – make sure you always compare with buying the ticket directly through the official channel to make sure you are getting the best deal.
  • Gettransfer.com: Airport transfers, cab rides or chauffered car rentals. I have never used them and there are mixed reviews online so please proceed with care!

Thank you in advance if you do end up booking through one of my links.
